Even though state borders in Europe in times of Schengen, Erasmus and EU roaming seem less and less important to a lot of young people, borders and boundaries nevertheless are key fac-tors of our discourses. Regardless of the external frontiers of the EU, discursive boundaries of what can (or cannot) be said or even limits of CO2 emission – borders, boundaries, frontiers and limits are relevant in many different contexts and guide our perception of the world. Even the state borders within the EU have attained a new relevance due to the Covid-19 pandemic which no one expected two years ago. The conference is hosted in Munich. We invite young scholars (students of Master’s programs or doctoral students) from the Czech Republic and Germany to engage in interdisciplinary discussion on the issue of borders and boundaries. We explicitly welcome presentations from different fields of study (history, language & literature, political and social sciences, cultural studies etc.) Individual presentations (15-20 min) will be integrated into panels and shall also be commented upon by advanced researchers. A publication of the conference proceedings is envisioned in the DigiOst book series. The Working language of the conference is English. All expenses for travel, board and lodging will be covered for the partici-pants presenting a paper (conditional to the approval of funding). The conference will take place according to the extant rules regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. Should an in-person event not be possible, the conference will take place online.
To apply for the conference, please send abstracts of your proposed presentation (max. 400 words) to the organizing team by January 31st. Notifications of acceptance will be provided by February 7th. Please then prepare your presentation including a paper (max. 4.000 words) to be handed in by April 1st to give the commentators enough time to prepare their remarks.
