Announcement of the 5th seminar „Historians and the War”

The online seminar of the series “Historians and the War: Rethinking the Future” will take place on July 14, Thursday, at 18:00 CET. The aim of the series is to discuss if and to what extent the war in Ukraine is changing our perception of the past and which new questions for historians it raises.
The invited speaker for the fifth seminar is Larry Wolff, Silver Professor of History at New York University, author of numerous publications on the history of Central and Eastern Europe, including Woodrow Wilson and the Reimagining of Eastern Europe (Stanford University Press, 2020).
The seminar will be chaired by Frank Sysyn, University of Alberta (Canada).
In the second part of the event, there will be a Q&A section with questions from the audience. The seminar is held in Ukrainian and English with simultaneous translation.

The seminar series is a joint initiative by the German-Ukrainian Historians' Commission, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, the Department of Eastern European History at Munich University, the Ukrainian Catholic University Lviv, and the Ukraine-based scholarly journal "Ukraina Moderna".
The series is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange service (DAAD) with funds of the German Foreign Ministry, as well as by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Das Online-Seminar der Reihe "Historians and the War: Rethinking the Future" findet am Donnerstag, 14. Juli, um 18:00 Uhr MEZ statt. Ziel der Seminarreihe ist es zu diskutieren, ob und inwieweit der Krieg in der Ukraine unsere Wahrnehmung der Vergangenheit verändert und welche neuen Fragen an die Geschichte er hervorruft.
Der Gast unseres fünften Seminars ist Larry Wolff, Silver Professor für Geschichte an der New York University, Autor zahlreicher Bücher zur Geschichte Osteuropas, u.a. Woodrow Wilson and the Reimagining of Eastern Europe (Stanford University Press, 2020).

Im zweiten Teil der Veranstaltung gibt es eine F&A-Sektion, in der Fragen des Publikums diskutiert werden. Das Seminar findet in ukrainischer und englischer Sprache mit Simultanübersetzung statt.

Онлайн-семінар серії «Історики і війна: переосмислення майбутнього» відбудеться 14 липня, у четвер, о 19:00 за київським часом. Метою серії семінарів є - обговорення питань, як і наскільки війна в Україні змінює наше сприйняття минулого та професію істориків.
Запрошеним доповідачом на п‘ятий семінар є Ларі Вольф, професор історії Нью-Йоркського університету та автором численних кнг, серед іншого Woodrow Wilson and the Reimagining of Eastern Europe (Stanford University Press, 2020).

У другій частини заходу усі слухачі матимуть можливість поставити запитання. Семінар проводиться українською та англійською мовами з синхронним перекладом.
